Door reinforcement in Mallorca

Door reinforcement in Mallorca

Reinforcing a door means strengthening the one you already have: a steel plate is added, the frame is protected and the lock is replaced with a high-security one. It is the option when your current door is in good condition and you do not want, or cannot, replace it with a full armoured door. At Panys Forts we have been reinforcing doors in Palma de Mallorca and across the island for over 35 years.

Reinforced or armoured: which one suits you

The difference starts at the factory. An armoured door is built as a single security unit: frame, leaf and casing leave the workshop as one certified assembly. Reinforcement strengthens an existing door by adding steel sheeting to one or both faces.

Reinforcement is cheaper and keeps the look of the door, which matters in listed buildings in central Palma or when the door is part of original joinery. On the other hand, it does not reach the resistance of a certified armoured door, because the frame and hinges remain the original ones.

Our honest recommendation: if the door and frame are sound and you want to deter and slow down a break-in attempt, reinforcement does the job. If you have already suffered an attempted entry, if the frame is damaged, or if you want the highest level of protection, the right investment is an armoured door.

How we carry out a reinforcement

We start with a site visit to check the door, the frame and the type of lock. A reinforcement cannot be quoted over the phone: some doors cannot take the extra weight, or their hinges are not up to it, and we would rather tell you beforehand.

If the door is suitable, we fit the steel plate, reinforce the anchor points, install a high-security lock with anti-bumping and anti-drill protection, and add a protective escutcheon and anti-lever bolts. The work is done at your home and usually takes a single day.

When we finish, the door is fully operational and we hand over the keys with an ownership card, so only you can order copies.

When reinforcement makes sense

When the door is solid but the lock is old or vulnerable to bumping techniques. When you are renting and cannot replace the door. When the building association will not allow a change of door for aesthetic reasons. And when the budget does not stretch to an armoured door but you still want a real increase in security.

It is also the usual choice for second homes that stay empty for much of the year, very common in Mallorca, where the goal is that any attempted entry is noticed and takes time.
